EXTENSION TO BLOOMSBURY NURSERY, BIRMINGHAM

Birmingham City Council, through their inhouse Architects, Urban Design, had developed a proposal to extend the facilities at Bloomsbury Nursery School in Nechells, Birmingham.
We worked with Thomas Vale Construction Ltd to develop a value engineered solution to satisfy budget constraints and operational criteria.
We initially developed a glulam timber solution for scheme design to meet the client brief. In order to achieve a column free area within the nursery, we designed a monopitch steel portal frame portalized in both planes with a suspended mezzanine over.
Made ground to significant depth underlay the site and we adopted a raft solution for the foundation solution.
Our brief included:
- Drainage design
- Sub and superstructure design
- Co-ordinate cladding subcontactors design with superstructure
- Structural alterations to existing building
