Birch Coppice Business Park has been created by major reclamation of the former Birch Coppice Colliery which lies on the A5 trunk road some 0.5 mile east of Junction 10 of the M42 Motorway. Phase 1 redevelopment comprise primary infrastructure (highway, foul and surface water sewerage, utility services, etc) and major earthworks to release some 49ha (121 acre) of development plateaus. Over 2 million cubic metres of subsoils were excavated; approximately 50% of which was re-engineered as plateau fill material and 50% was coal-contaminated hence incorporated in the enlarged colliery mound, which now occupies some 30ha (70 acre).
F&P were engaged by IM Properties (Dordon) Ltd, the site owner, to design, detail and specify all of the plateau earthworks, including an extensive testing regime. In addition, F&P were appointed “The Engineer” to the Infrastructure Implementation Contract amounting to some £10 million in construction value. Within this role, F&P administered the Construction Contract and checked to Contractor’s compliance by full-time on-site supervision.
