Birmingham City Council with the assistance of Sport England commissioned Thomas Vale to build a new indoor training centre on the existing Alexander Stadium site. The building is intended to be used by both the community and elite athletes.
The development comprised a masonry clad steel frame building with specialist facilities for both track and field athletes. A sustainable drainage scheme was used which incorporated ponds and swales whilst the roof was designed with provision for the future installation of specialist panels for generating electricity from solar sources.
Our brief included:
- Foundation engineering
- Superstructure Design (masonry & secondary steel water attenuation ponds)
- Specification for hard pavings
- Drainage & Site levels
- Superstructure appraisal - steelwork
