Birmingham City Council with the assistance of Sport England commissioned Thomas Vale to build a new indoor training centre on the existing Alexander Stadium site. The building is intended to be used by both the community and elite athletes.
The development comprised a masonry clad steel frame building with specialist facilities for both track and field athletes. A sustainable drainage scheme was used which incorporated ponds and swales whilst the roof was designed with provision for the future installation of specialist panels for generating electricity from solar sources.
