Civil Engineering
Our Civil Engineering Department provides a comprehensive service ranging from feasibility studies through detailed design/detailing to Contract administration and site supervision encompassing the following types of work:-
- Highways (both for adoption and private use), external pavings, service yards, car parks, etc.
- Sewerage (both for adoption and private use), including trunk sewers, pcc box culverts, pipe jacking, mini-tunnels, pumping stations, flood storage ponds/ tanks and flow attenuation/flood defense works, Flood Risk Assessment.
- Earthworks, retaining walls, sheet piling
- Short span bridges and other highway structures
- Traffic Engineering, including Transportation Assessments, junction designs, assistance/responses to Road Safety Audits, vehicle swept paths.
- Advice/implementation of highway and sewerage adoptions, Planning procedures, appropriate Forms of Contract and tendering procedures
In recent years the high demand for developable “brownfield” sites has involved us in remediation of contaminated land, including disused gas works, pollution from industrial processing plant and landfill sites, etc. We have applied our expertise in this field on several residential, retail and industrial redevelopment projects in the West Midlands, Staffordshire and North Lancashire.
The wide range of our expertise allows us to offer Clients a complete “package” of consultancy services in-house. Historically, most of our appointments have been directly with the “Employer” of construction works. In recent years, however, we have been engaged on Design & Construct contracts where we join with the appointed Contractor, either by novation from the Employer or directly in competitive tender with the Contractor. Increasingly our work with Housing Associations and others is undertaken a Partnering basis.
